Hearing loss since childhood

I am a healthy 28 year old male. I have had this condition in my left ear ever since childhood where the hearing in this ear is only 20%. I went to see an ENT specialist few years ago and he put me through a few tests. He diagnosed that my condition is rare. Basically the bones inside of my ear are frozen and are not moving as they should be. He said they will have to go in and replace these bones with a fake bone to do the job. He also said that if the operation is successful, I can gain 100% of my hear back in the left ear. However there is a risk that I may completely loose all hearing in this ear all together. I just want to know if there is anyone who knows of this condition or have any experience with a similar case? I want to get this fixed but not at the cost of completely loosing my hearing.
