Looking for ANY Suggestions...

In the past several weeks, I've been experiencing a disturbing, as well as an uncomfortable situation with my hearing. Remember transistor radios back in the '60s? Well, that's how everything currently sounds to me, especially with music (and I am a musician). It's like the bottom, or the lower frequencies have dropped out of my hearing range. And not only does everything sound excessively trebly, but it also sounds distorted. When it's totally quiet, I sometimes feel a bit of pressure in my ears. The level of this discomfort is not consistent; it decreases and increases, depending on the time of day. Funny enough, when I take a hot shower, it seems to disappear!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Get yourself to an audiologist immediately!

You have described the hearing loss very well--musicians are so awesome at finding details in sound.

You have described a conductive hearing loss. That would mean a problem in the outer or middle ear. It would cause the lower and possibly mid frequencies to be lost disproportionate to the upper mids and highs, which would come through better. The attenuation or quieting of some frequencies but not others would make things sound distorted.

The audiologist may send you to an ENT, so you might want to make an appointment with one. You can always cancel it if you do not need it. But an audiologist would definitely be my first stop, because they have tests to weed out exactly where the problem is--and help you solve it.

Let us know what happens!

And p.s.... Although I want you to take this seriously, I want to reassure you that conductive hearing losses tend to be more "fixable" than other types of hearing loss. Fingers crossed that it is something simple with the outer ear.
