Regaining hearing after 24 years??

When I was 4 years old I had surgery to place rubes in both ears. Due to complications I lost almost all hearing in my right ear. For 24 years I have only heard muffled noises in that ear. Doctors suggested hearing aids but I wasn't comfortable with them since I have great hearing in my other. Four nights ago I was watching TV and noticed the sound seemed usually loud and was bothering my right ear. This continued the following day and my hearing in my good ear sounded muffled. The next morning my hearing seemed almost back to my normal, except I can hear out of my previously non-hearing ear. It isn't great but my overall hearing is better and I can hear very clearly out of headphones in my right ear. Which I have never been able to before. Is it even possible to regain hearing after such a long time? And is it possible my hearing will go away as quickly as it came back?
