Have you been taking Pepto Bismol.......Salicylism has been reported in patients who chronically ingest bismuth subsalicylate. Common complaints include vertigo, diminished hearing, ...... tinnitus...
Did you ever find out what caused this? I have had the same problem for 8 weeks and I am praying it is not permanent. But have had some hearing loss in low frequency tones which the ENTs think was caused from a virus. Any feedback is appreciated.
This is not likely Eustachian tube dysfunction. I would recommend ignoring the above advice and getting your hearing tested by a professional if this is persisting.
It sounds to me like you have blocked eustachian tubes which are the tubes that run from the ear to the nose and to the back of the throat. When you have a cold, especially afterwards, the pressure in them can alter, and cause the eardrum to suck in a little. This can distort sound, like having a bucket over your head, or sound muffly. The best cure is to get some friars balsam, put a capful into a bowl of hot water, (take care), and put a towel over your head over the water and inhale for ten minutes every two hours...it will go. If it doesn't then see the doc.......I get this a lot...
