Temporary Hearing Loss

Hey so i just found out me and my dad have the same thing so i figured id try to find out what it is.

So at times we lose part of our hearing what we are losing is part of the lower frequencies we hear the highs and mids just fine from what i can tell but just the lows are gone mostly.  What i do (and I just recently found out my dad does the same thing) is find a song that has a wide mix of frequencies and a song I know (for me country for him old rock) and turn it up a bit past a normal listening volume. im not sure how long it takes him but for me its near the end of a 3 min song or alittle later. After that my hearing is back to normal from what i can tell.

Anyone got any ideas?
