loss of hearing and balance

I have lost hearing in both ears 80% /50%.  My balance is really off. Saw a ENT who just sent me for a hearing aid which does not realy help me hear much better.  Went to a neurologist who said is nerve damage in my ears and causing the balance loss said I am probably just stuck with it,  happened very suddenly,he suggested a cane
I am 63 is there nothing I can do?

I also have nerve-related hearing loss 85/85% - i.e., way bad in both ears. I have been extremely satisfied with my Oticon Synchro hearing aids, so my first suggestion is for you to explore other hearing aid models. My hearing loss curve is unusual, and the audiologist was able to "map" the curve to about 4 different brands of hearing aid to see which one would help compensate the best - hence my Oticons. As for your balance, do not give up! Take some Pilates and/or Yoga classes to build up your core strength and master basic poses to help you gain balance. I have a terrible balance problem which has been vastly improved with exercise. Good luck to you!
