nerve dead

as a child i had whooping cough with which i contracted an ear infection which resulted in complete deafness in one ear, all i can remember being told was the nerve ending was dead and nothing more can be done. well that was 15 years ago . and now i am in a position where i could afford to have an operation.... but my question is... can anything be done??

Not really....   There is nothing really that can be done to restore the hearing in the dead ear.   A cochlear implant would theoritically work, but they would not do it because you have one good ear.

There is a device called the "Transear" google it

There is also a device called a BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid) and as the name applies it is anchored in the skull.

I would suggest you investigate the Transear
