speech problems with hearing loss

Hello group. I'm new here. I'm a 44 y/o male currently wearing open fit design canal/bte hearing aids. I've had severe hearing loss since birth or early childhood. I've always had trouble understanding the soft sounds such as s,t,k,z,p’s and so forth and as well as pronouncing these sounds. Diagnosed with severe hearing loss (high pitch, frequency) to both ears and more on the right than the left. I've managed to finish school and eventually became an EMT-Paramedic. I'm still active as a paramedic and pushing 21 years this coming March. The question I have is... I have such a difficult time pronouncing the s,x,z and sometime the r sounds. Is there any help for adults with severe hearing loss to re-train/learn to pronounce these sounds correctly? I've googled and googled without any luck. Again, this speech deficit has been with me my whole entire life. I've worn aid as a child but the technology wasn't what they have to offer now.

Hearing aid technology may be better, but I imgaine the simple fact is, your cochlea has regions that are just not developed. You did say, you had a hearing loss since early childhood. A hearing aid can not make non exsisiting areas of the cochlea respond.

Now regarding speech issues....   you would have to consult with a speech therapist. But I do not put a lot of stock in the final results. Take Lou for example http://www.louferrigno.com/

he has limitless amount of money, he could afford 24hr 7 speech therapy, but yet he still has a deaf speach pattern, along with Heather Whitestone.

But, with this in mind, the more the severe the loss, the more the severe the speech problems, social problems, learning delay etc etc.
