a fib trigger

a fib trigger

Before my successful ablation, my a fib was reasonably controlled with Sotolol.  Then the evening following a yearly flu shot, I developed flu like symptoms.  My heart also started to fibrillate, had chest pain, and I believed I was having a heart attack.  A trip to the emergency room got my back into rhythm and heart attack was ruled out.  Two days later I was back in the ER with fibrillation and converted several hours later.  For about a week I had problems with short episodes of arrhythmia.  I had no other problems, however, for the next three months while I waited for my ablation.
Now I am apprehensive about another yearly flu shot.  I am male, age 65 and am in excellent health and fitness.  But even after successful ablation, I am reluctant to try again and risk another reaction--if in fact that was the cause.
Are there any studies that link this issue to flu imminization?  Is there a risk in trying again, especially since my arrhythmia has been resolved with ablation?

I don't think that your flu shot cause recurrence of your AF.  It takes a while for the atrium to heal after an ablation so that you can end up with some episodes of AF such as what you've descrined.  I think that it's ok for you to get a flu shot this year.  I am assuming that you are not allergic to any parts of the vaccine and that you had received in the past without any symptoms at all.
