17 yr old diagnosed with ARVD

  Hi. I am 17 yrs old and have recently been diagnosed with ARVD.  I am on a drug
  called propranolol and in a week will be getting a defibulator implanted.
  I can't seem to find much info and am rather scared.  If you would reply, I would appreciate it.

Dear Sarah,
Thank you for your question.  Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia if a genetic condition that results in an abnormality of the right ventricle (the right pumping chamber).  Patients with this condition have a higher risk of developing dangerous heart rhythms and are sometimes treated with implantable defibrillators to prevent this complication.    I have listed some good web sites with ARVD information and support.   Please feel free to write back with any additional questions.
