18year old male spasms coming from heart area

by Jake, Oct 29, 2000 12:00AM
Hi, I'm an 18 year old male with a clean medical history.  I dont smoke or do anything else the would cause complications.  Im not stressed out either but i've been getting these weird spasms in the heart area and they don't hurt at all.  I don't know what it is but I dont know if its a serious problem or if it will just go away been happening last 2 days.  Hopefully someone can lead my in the right direction of this matter.  What it is and what i should do.  Thanks in advance.

Jake.

It is difficult to say what the reason is for these spasms. It is possibly the muscles in the chest wall area. Given your youth and overall health, it is much less likely to be your heart. The best thing to do is to get it checked out by your doctor just to make sure.

I would contact your doctor right away. I was experiencing tightness in my chest for a couple of days and finally called the doctor, just to stop my wife fro mbothering me. It turns out they sent an ambulance, even though I felt fine. I had(have?) myocarditis that would have gone unnoticed until I had done irrepairable damge to the heart muscle. The worst I ever felt was a slight flu days earlier. It is probably nothing, but it is worth getting it checked out. If for no other reason, just for the piece of mind. Good luck!

Minor irregularities in the heart beat are very common and usually totally benign.  If it doesn't go away on its own, you should see your doctor.  He'll probably have you wear a monitor for a 24 hour period so they can record and analyze it.  The probablity of it being anything serious is very slight but, again, it should be checked out if it continues.

I had the same problems few days ago and was also worried the way you are. I would suggest you drink plenty of water and stop doing heavy exercise for a while and they will automatically go away. I had spams for a week and they got well by themselves and so imeediately started running etc and they are back again. But I hope they would be fine soon.
