24 And palpitations

by dragolas, Apr 26, 2005 12:00AM
Iam 24 years of age slightly overweight. Pretty much I can remember having skipped beats since. I was a child but over time they had gotten worse well around october of last year I was given a 24 holter monitor and the results are has followed.

The patient was monitored for 24 hours. The minimum rate was 41 the maxmum rate was 128,mean rate 92. There were 13 supraventricular extopic beats and three couplets. The patient had episodes of sinus tachycardia and sinus bradycardia. NO Ventricular ectopics. No Pauses detected.

Impression

1.Rare supraventricular ectopic beats, total 13 during the recorded period.
2.No Ventricular ectopic beats.
3.No pauses detected.

Now during this time I didnt have nay major flutters I could hit the record button for. But these have began to control my life iam constantly thinking these are due to a bad rythm and at any moment my heart can stop causing me great anxiety. Just this morning while laying down I could feel my hear girate? And then after the giration my heart would beat slow then pick back up. I have no medical coverage but should I persue this further? I was giving this test through the E.R. and havent got to speak to a doctor about the results. Also I have felt pauses in my heart.

dragolas,

this is pretty much a normal report for a 24 year old. I think it would be wise to just see a gneral internist before pursuing any type of excessive work up.  Work with them after a carefule physical and history to deveolp a lifestyle modification program.

good luck

Just thought I'd add my two bits worth. What you discribe sounds just like what I went through at 26 years of age. I'm now 34. I have read that when this happens to us, it sends an alarm message to our brains and we panic like hell!
It can take years of living with them to take them calmly. And I'd like to add here that I'v since had 3 babys where your heart gets put through heaps of stress and I'm still here and still get palps. Lying down is when I get them the most.
I went through hell mentaly trying to deal with them. With doctors looking at me like I was nuts and dismissing what I was feeling, until I found one who sent me for a stress test and ecg's. Decide to not let them ruin your life.
Good luck.

dragolas,

I am 27 years old and started getting palps about 3 years ago.  Mine started after 8 years of smoking which in turn scared me so bad that I quit cold turkey when I found out what that feeling in my chest was.  I have had 2 holters done though I don't remember the exact results I do remember it showed PVC's which seemed to do nothing but bore my doctor.

The biggest problem that these have caused me is mentally.  Talk about anxiety attacks.  It took a while and a lot of research to convince myself that PVC's are virtually harmless.  Istill get them to this day, mostley when lifting weights or when I get anxious.  My best advice (not a doctor) is much like bronzed aussie's, "Don't let them ruin your life."

I'm 32 and had pneumothorax about 6 month ago, and developed palpitation while
getting treatment for pneumothorax in hospital.
mostly pounding heart and pounding pulse in neck while lying down, but not fast or irregular.

it disappeared after a week or so, but palpitation reappeared just few weeks ago.
worse when lying down for sleep.

I'm not sure what's causing it, not sure if pneumothorax can cause it.

some have suggested lots of grape is good for palpitation.
I'm drinking lots of grape juice, seems to help little bit.

hello everyone im jason i have been having palpitations for the last nine weeks it came out of no were iam a sports coach so im extremley fit im only 23 i dont smoke and only drink occasionally. I was sat at a friends house just talking when i felt extremley light headede and my heart started to race i rushed to hospital were my heart was beating upto 200bpm and i was having ventricular ectopics in a biggemini pattern i thought i was done for. The doctors kept me in did blood tests, echo,24hr monitor said i was fine and carry on with your life. for the last 9 weeks i have been to three different hospitals and seen two cardiologists to which they said the same thing. I have hundereds of ectopics a day and each one takes my breath away i havent managed to get back to work or college because i feel very ill constantly fatigued, headaches, chestpain, dizzy and so on my gp thinks its all anxiety to which im suprised because the only thing thats making my anxious is the ectopics. Can any of you help me in answering these questions or give opinions Can anxiety cause palpatations? Can ventricular ectopics kill you?
Thank you all

You're probably not eating very well.If your potassium and magnesium were not to high, I recomend increasing them gradually and carefully. Also, keep your carbs up for energy;try pasta.

Most of my palps. are caused by gas in the upper chest area.I am sure of this because when I feel the gas move down(away from chest) the irregular heartbeat goes away.Gas in the lower areas is fine;it has no effect on my heart at all.

SOME EXAMPLES:

1.)chewing gum on an empty stomach will indirectly cause me PVCs;this is because gas gets up in my chest area.

2.)sometimes exercise will cause them, usually when I am playing tennis;this is because all the moving around pushes gas upward.

A bad combination for me would be to drink alot of liquid on an empty stomach and go play tennis.
