27 Y F high blood pressure, tachycardia, elevated AST/ALT levels

I am a 27 year old female. I have had multiple health issues over the years. Most recently, I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. It runs about 140 - 160 over 85 - 115. I have also had tachycardia recently- pulse rate at 98 - 115. I have been started on Inderal to help the tachycardia, which has improved some. I have also just been placed on a diuretic for my blood pressure. I have had EKG- negative. I was also monitored on an ambulatory EEG for 72 hours that showed nothing. Now, I have been diagnosed with elevated AST and ALT levels. Are the AST / ALT levels related to this tachycardia and high blood pressure?

The AST/ALT levels represent what's going on in your liver and how hard the liver's working. There are multiple causes of why liver enzymes could be elevated, and really it depends on how elevated they are in order for further testing to be ordered or for a diagnosis to be made. The one link that could relate the elevated liver enzymes and your high blood pressure is high triglycerides, obesity, and diet. An improper diet, especially with genetics going for ya, can cause arteries in your heart to clog, elevating the blood pressure and heart rate. This in turn would also increase your weight, elevate your tigycerides, and thus your liver enzymes. If your eating habbits aren;t the healthiest, that could be something to look at. If you feel you are a helathy person other than these issues and have a balanced diet, than this would be in the doctor's hands to find out what's going on, as you're a little young for blood pressure and heart meds. If you've had multiple other health issies in the past, these might be things to bring up with your current doctor, in case they're related. I hope this information helps, and I wish you luck in getting the care and treatment you need. I'm sending good thoughts and best wishes your way. Take care,

Sara RN
