28 high bloodpressure

Hi my Dr has put me on Zoloft certain that my high Bp is cause by stress and anxiety.I had a baby 2 months ago and  it was never high now it stays 145+over 90 and higher .Should i not be put on Bp meds and I really don't want take the Zoloft it hasn't been successful in helping my blood pressure go down anyways Im 28 years old i am a smoker Im sure that doesnt help matters but i believe my stress level is gone up because Im scared of the zoloft and I have such a long history of heart problems in my family
