30 Year Old With Resting 120bpm

I am extremely concerned about my heart rate.  My normal resting heart rate averages out at about 120bpm.  I just took another measurement and it is at 116bpm at the current time.  I haven't been doing anything other than sitting at my computer for the past hour.  I am only 30 years old.  I am not sure if you need this information but my weight is 190# and I am 6'3 tall.  I don't have any health problems that I am aware of that I could imagine would cause such a high resting heart rate.  When I wake up in the morning, I am very sore and my heart feels as if it is going to beat right out of my chest.  It feels like I am extremely dehydrated (though I do keep up my normal intake of fluids.) I take my blood pressure quite often and my systolic averages around 140-150, but my diastolic is usually around 95-100.  I was made aware of this problem about 5 years ago but the average bpm then was around 100.  Thank you for your help ahead of time!

Have your thyroid checked, an overactive thyroid can cause a fast heart rate.  Being out of shape, not exercising can cause an increase in heart rate in some people.  There are all kinds of causes.

Your BP is to high for a 30 year old.  The new guidelines, especially for young people like you is below 120/80.  A BP of 120/80 is now considered "pre-hypertensive".  It used to be that a normal BP was up to 140/90, not anymore,
But your heart rate has got nothing to do with your blood pressure.  They are to seperate things.

I used to get severe blood pressure spikes, and my heart rate hardly changed, but I could feel my heart beating real strong, and see it pounding in my throat when I looked in the mirror.

If I were you I'd see a doctor and get a physical.  A blood test can also show if you have a vitamin deficiency, that too can cause your heart rate to go up.

Thank you very much for your reply!:)  I am going to schedule a physical w/ bloodwork this next week.  I have mentioned this to my doctor but he doesn't seem to be concerned.  They don't even take my blood pressure anymore when I come in.  Perhaps they are just THAT busy...I am guessing it might be time to look elsewhere!  Have a great weekend!

Thanks, you've a nice weekend too.

Yeah, I think its time you change doctors.  Not taking your BP anymore doesn't sound right.  Even some dentists are starting to take BP now for routine dental care as in fillings etc, not just before dental surgery.

Hi.  I'm just curious.  When your heart rate is that high, is it steady?  Sometimes with the slightest movement my heart rate will jump up to the 120s but then it'll drop just as fast.  Hope you feel better soon.
