30-year-old female with 3 abnormal EKGS

It's me again, I was sent to the ER for an abnormal EKG at an outpatient clinic.  In the ER the second EKG was abnormal, but labs were okay so I was sent home on Klonopin for anxiety.  The symptoms continued, then on Sunday the chest pressure turned into pain radiating into my left side (left jaw, shoulder, and breast area).  I went to the ER again, where the third EKG was abnormal (lateral leads I think?).  I was admitted Sunday night, underwent an echocardiogram ultrasound Monday along with labs every 12 hours.  I was also given Potassium, Nitropaste and Lopressor.  A Cardiologist was consulted Monday who recommended a coronary CT angiogram Tuesday after being discharged (his office had the only CTA machine in town), which was done.

With three abnormal EKGs in a row, is this a sign of a serious problem?  Will I make it to 50?  Now I'm really terrified.

Update:  The CTA isn't back yet (the doctor who is going to read it was out of town when it was performed), but the echo was (anatomically) normal with a resting ejection fraction of 70%.  My husband is a CNMT/rad tech and says they hardly ever see 70% ejection fractions on Cardiolite studies they perform.  I don't know if 70% LVEF is perfectly normal or above normal.

My primary care physician said that, while he would have to wait until the cardiologist read the CTA and the radiologist over-read it to make a determination on what to do next, it sounded like an arrhythmia and put me on 12.5 mg/day of Toprol for the time being.  That has slowed me down a bit, but my blood pressure which was borderline abnormal before has come down, which is a good thing.

Currently I'm feeling fine other than chest pressure every now and then.  I've cut out caffeine entirely and cut my work down to 8 hours a day, so that may have helped get rid of the other symptoms.  After the CTA comes back I'll know more.  It must have been already read, as it says on my insurance claims website that the cardiologist billed for $1,600.... LOL

Being terrified won't help.

I think the angio CT is a good next step.  You're going to have to be an advocate for yourself in terms of making sure this is followed-up on.  Your symptoms do sound concerning, and the abnormal EKG could mean anything.  I would definitely make sure you get to the bottom of it.

In the mean time, try to relax.  I know that's easier said than done when you're worried like this, but try.  Staying calm can only do you good, worry accomplishes nothing.  Simply stay focused on what you need to do, and do it.
