6 weeks after ep study, still pain

my question is it has been 6 weeks after ep study of my heart and the site is still very sore and pain go down to my knee. it looks fine, just a little swollen area in a line going up groin about 3 inches long. after test, they got me up in 3 hours to walk and blood squirted from site and bled allot till they laid me back down, blood pressure droped and felt really sick, they pressed and pressed hard for minutes and this was very painful. Could this have anything to do with pain now? I called doctors office who performed this procedure, but he is out of town and nurse said to call back in a week. I can't stand weight on it, and the more i walk, it is real sore that evening. thanks for any help. nancy

Dear nancyjo,
I'm going to assume that they used a standard venous system approach and there were no atrerial punctures.  It is possible that the ambulation caused the fresh clot to open and the bleeding could have created a hematoma.  Basically this is a big bruise and it can take several weeks for this to resolve.  Six weeks seems a bit long.  I suppose another possibility is an AV fistula but this does not usually cause pain.  An ultrasound would rule this out.  I would make an appointment to see your doctor for next week.  Explain the nature of the symptoms and that you need to see him when he gets back in town.
