6 weeks old with a heart murmur

My 6 week old granddaughter has a heart murmur which the doctors have said is getting worse!  Is there other treatments besides sugury? What exactly is a murmur? Since she is living in a rather small and dark basement apartment has this anything to do with it getting worse? Her mother has just started getting her out fo a little whild a day in the sunlight

A heart murmur means there's some noise in the heart. It could be a click from a valve or turbulence from a hole between the chambers or a backwash from a loose fitting valve. Only the doctor can determine the cause. Some murmurs are harmless. All my kids had murmurs as infants and grew out of them. I still have mine but it's of no consequence.

I understand living in a basement apartment but I don't understand why Mom and baby can't get out for some time each day. Surely she must have to go out for groceries or perhaps to visit a friend or take a walk. Fresh air and sunlight won't fix the heart murmur but it sure helps produce Vit. D and good emotional health.
