77 year old with new pacemaker

Hi, my grandmother is 77 years old, and about a month ago she began feeling very weak and short of breath.  Finally I take her her to the ER and she is admitted with a pulse in the mid 30's and a BP around 190/60.  She had a pacemaker put in 2 days later and was discharged the next day.  Now, her pulse rate is up 80-90 but she has been crying and telling me she's had a pounding headache non stop for a week, but she is nevertheless up and walking around.  I tried to get her to go back to the ER and I told her maybe they would want a brain CT or something but she is being stubborn.

Anyway, I will quit rambling on and let you tell me what you think about the overall situation...I'm not even sure what her diagnosis was (and she doesnt know either)..what do you think it could be and is the constant headache worrisome?    (note she's been on antibiotics/amoxicillan and synthroid for hypo)

Thank you..

Hello,

If this is the worst headache she has ever had or much worse than normal, it is a good idea to have her evaluated.  I don't think it has anything to do with the pacemaker.  The BP 190/60  suggests her headache may be from uncontrolled high blood pressure.  If this is the case, she needs treatment and it is worth going to the emergency room for evaluation.

I hope this helps.  Thanks for posting.
