8 1/2 month old sons lips turn blue after eating

Last night after feeding my son (8 1/2 months old) his dinner his lips turned purple.  I did feed him pear/blueberry baby food along with apple/oats baby food.  But he has had this quite often and this is the first time this happened.  After cleaning his mouth with a babywipe his lips were still purple.  The pink finally came back after about 45minutes to an hour.  Then at lunch today I fed him prunes (which are brown) and pear/oat/vanilla and again his lips turned blue.  He is not choking or gagging.  He is eating as he normally does and just as happy as always.  He has had a cough off and on for a week now, but again he is not coughing or gagging while eating.  The lips do not change color after nursing or a bottle...only with baby food.  He has been eating baby food since he was 5 1/2 months old.  Any suggestions?

I believe you should contact your infant's doctor.  Normal, healthy babies' lips do not turn blue. There can be an allergy, worst case scenario would be lack of oxygen caused by a heart problem.  It can be any number of things. Talk with your pediatrician asap.

Thanks for sharing, and if you have any follow-up questions or comments you are welcome to respond.  Take care, and I wish the best for your baby going forward.
