A-fib just a "bother" not serious

I seen a cardioogist yesterday for the first time. He informed me that the GP had me on a med (dilitazam) that would not address my A-fib which is why I keep having it.
I asked to see an elecrophsyiologist and he laughed saying this condition is to them as a wart is to a dermatologist.
He said the condition was nothing but a "bother" with a slight increase risk of stroke in older populations.
I have every symptom of heart failure except swelling but he said that I don't have heart failure it is casued by the A-fib only.
I had a history of A-fib in coma and I am not sure how he cas say this without testing. Does this sound right or should I push for a second opinion?

I'm not sure I understand your post.  You had a situation where you were in a coma?

I went into A-fib after recent heart surgery, and it was treated as a serious condition.  I would never trust a doctor to laughed at a condition like that.  I'd get a second opinion in a New York Minute.

Jed personally, I dont agree with you cardiologist.  I had afib for about 12 years and had to have about 12-15 electro cardioversions and was converted 3-4 times with medication.  I could not go anywhere away from home with out being concerned that I would go into afib.  Most emergency rooms that are not familiar with your history will not shock you back but will tell you to go home and see your cardiologist... Its no fun to stay in afib for 2-3 weeks...plus you have to be on blood thinners which increases the risks for other problems such as bleeding to death... I am not familiar with dilitazam.. but there are some drugs like flecinide, toprol Xl and some others that will help...especially flecainide...and yes I would most certainly get a second opinion.. crudely put I think you cardiologis is full of crap...and wants to treat you for afib every few months. I went to an electro physiologist last year and had an ablation that corrected my afib... have -0- afib now.. and my cardiologist advised me against seeing the electrophyiologist also.. then i got to thinking ... he was seeing me evey 3 months, not to mention shocking me back into rhythm about twice a year.. my light bulb finally came on... its a money thing with them... hope this helps..Claytex
