ASD and stent implantation

Hi ,

I was checking some posts, and I really like them. I would also like someone to advice me.

My mother who is 56 years old, got to know 15 years back that she has ASD, hole in her heart for which doctors referred her to Open heart surgery, which she never agreed due to her own fears. But she was moving fine, until 2 weeks back she had Angina attack and we got her Angiography done yesterday which revealed that her one of the artery is blocked over 90% near the beginning. Docs recommend her to go for Stent implant.

Now seeing her past history of ASD,and low platelets count. Would you recommend to go for it or not? Any risks involved in that?

Waiting for someone to reply

Actually yesterday only we got reports for CT Angiography, in which it says that her right artery is about 95% blocked. and both her left arteries are 50% and 25% blocked respectively.

Docs say that CT Angiography is just an idea of heart. However, to get a complete picture, they suggest to go for regular angiography with piercing the vein in wrist and putting the wire.  Is it right that the CT Angiography isnt very accurate? Is there any better test than the regular angiography also?

Also as stated earlier she is also suffering from ASD(hole), for which docs told her to go for open heart surgery several years back, but still she was feeling fine and didnt go for surgery. Now this new problem with Angina.

What do you suggest?

We are very confused as we have limited finances.

Doc also suggested that she should go for open heart surgery for hole closure and during the same surgery they will also rectify her artery blockages.

Is that possible?

Dipin, I just noticed you have sent an e-mail regarding you mother's condition.  If after reading, your two posts and you have followup questions you can continue questions e-mail.  Hope this helps.

I just answered a few minutes ago with your similar post.  You have changed the parameters of blockage and now location which is significant. ASD was discussed in your other post.  To start two similar threads is confusing, so please contain relevant information to one thread.

The risk is in not opening the artery as the potential exists for heart muscle damage due to ischemia (lack of oxygen which is carried by the blood cells). The larger the artery, the higher the potential for damage, especially in light of the recent onset of angina. Follow the Doctor's recommendations.
