AV Canal

My nephew born 10/01/99 is currently a patient at Arkansas Children's Hospital.  He was born with AV Canal and was initially thought to be a candidate for repair.  Most recently a minor leakage (I believe in the Aortic Valve) has created a major complication.  My brother has been advised that a echo from 11/5/99 is on it's way for review by Dr. Roger Mee in hopes that he can maybe help our "little guy".  However, we have also been advised that due to the incredible gift of the physician's at the Heart Center, at times Dr. Mee is unavailable due to medical travel.  I have two questions.  First is Dr. Mee in the facility to review this echo, if not when might he.  Second, please provide some information on exactly what is going on in this little guy's heart and maybe some statistics of success if he is deemed a candidate. Before the option of Cleveland Heart Center, they were talking transplant.  Is it a possibility that he would be transfered there for a transplant?  Could you please provide some information about the defect as well as what's going on with this valve leakage.  Is this a common complication of this defect?  How is it repaired?  Thank you for your time.  We are not looking for miracles as the very fact this little guy continues to hang in there is miracle enough.

Dr. Mee is an excellent surgeon as is his partner Dr. Drummond-Webb.  We take a team approach here and the records will be reviewed by a cardiologist and the surgeon before a decision as to the best treatment is made.  Without knowing exactly what is going on it is hard to comment on procedures and outcomes but be assured if there is something surgical that can be done Dr. Mee and Dr. Drummond-Web are two of the best.
