Ablation in 36 hours!!

Ablation in 36 hours!!

Hi all
I'm having my second ablation for atrial tachycardia in about 36 hours! Going into hospital on Tuesday 28th June. One day to go.

I had my first ablation last July & it worked for 5 months. Then my arrythmia symptoms started coming back last December & have just got worse & worse. None of the usual drugs work for me so my EP said the best way forward was a second ablation.

Has anyone had more than one ablation? Just wondered if the recovery time is longer second time? Was your second one successful or have you had to have more?

I don't feel scared going in again as I know what to expect during the procedure etc. Not looking forward to having to lie flat for 6 hours after! Last time I was allowed up after 6 hours & my groin wound started bleeding again so I had to lie flat for another 6 hours!! Not very nice!!

Anyway......please be thinking of me. Thanks

The second time round is easier simply because you do know what to expect. One of the worst parts of an ablation is just the imagination going wild and the emotions that follow.

I've had 3 ablations which isn't quite the norm. In some people they ablate one area only to have another spot rear its ugly head later. In my case they thought they had it under control but it came back. The second time I was in for 7 hours and they knew they still didn't have it zapped. My cardio was trying so hard to avoid putting me on a pacemaker. The third time round he got most of it and my heart still goes tachy but it's so much better than it was before. I'm happy with that.

As for recovery time, for me it was longer the second time just because I was in there so long and I don't pop back from anesthesia very well. The third time was quick, about 3 hours and I felt great in a couple of days. Each time is different and you'll be fine. Wishing you and the doctor good luck.
