Ablation

by DQ, Jul 06, 2000 12:00AM
I have had PAC's for 5 years and have gotten use to them, but recently had bouts of tachycardia if I exercise too strenuously.  Do not last very long.  Generally isn't too bad when I take 25mg of atenolol.  My cardiologist said I could get an EP study and have an ablation if necessary.  He is pretty sure I have an extra pathway.

My question is:  Generally what is the total cost of such a procedure?  I know that this may vary, but I'm not sure my insurance is going to cover it.  I'd like a comparison.

If you can't give me a cost over the internet I understand.  Minneapolis Heart Institute gave me a cost of about $6400.  But I'm sure there are some extra costs involved.

Also I've noticed that the PAC's are worse before I wake up.  When I get moving and walk around etc, they pretty much go away.  What might be the cause, and any suggestions about how to minimize them before I wake up.  They sometimes interrupt my sleep.

Thanks,

If you have an extra pathway, ablation would be a very good option. Other than increasing the dose of medication, Other possibilities include eliminating any caffeine intake. I do not have the actual cost information, but health insurance should cover most of it.
