Ablation

Ablation

: : My daughter is 21 and had svt.  She had ablation performed 4 years ago.  She is now for the last 6 months experiencing leg pain, swelling, numbness and white spotting after standing a long time.  I was wondering if research had been done on patients who have had ablation and if this could be a symptom of damage during the catheterization process?  She has had blood work done that didn't reveal a problem.  Thank you for your help.

  : Dear Julie,
: Thank you for your question.  It would be next to impossible for an ablation done 4 years ago to be causing these current symptoms.  A ablation is a tiny superficial burn of the heart with no systemic side-effects.

I thank you for the quick response.  I wasn't thinking that the ablation of the heart could have caused this, but wondered if there was any research on the catheterization process and these symptoms in pediatric patients.  Thank you

Dear Julie,
Thank you for the clarification.  I don't know of any research per se in this area.  I would contact the doctor who did the ablation and see if he wants any follow-up.
