bechie,

ECG's are not scaled to thin women and the criteria on an ecg to diagnose LVH doesnt apply to you. Although your family history is concerning, I would wait for the echo. MVP shouldnt cause those findings on a ecg so I wouldnt worry too much about that now.  Either way the echo will tell.

good luck

I too have the mimimal voltage criteria for LVH, my echo shows only mild LVH, probably due to mild hypertension, I now have my B/P controlled at 100/60 most of the time. I have been assured by my cardio that LVH and HCM ,which is the same as IHSS as far as I know are completely different, HCM is mostly caused from genetic thickening of the heart muscle. I have no family history of HCM though my Dad and Mom both have LVH from hypertension and are alive. My Dad is in his late 70s and mom in her early 70s, both healthy without any cardiovascular problems though my dad has frequent PVCs to which he is completely unaware, I feel all of mine, wish I were like him.

I dont understand how you can have significant MVP unless confirmed by echo, a voltage criteria on ECG for LVH in young thin persons usually have turn out to be false positive unless a family history of HCM is present so I understand your docs concern as obviously you do have a family history.

I am very interested in LVH and HCM, though I am not an MD, just diagnosed with mild LVH myself and trying to keep it from progessing any further with strict B/P control.

Please keep us updated with your echo results. Good luck and I hope everything turns out just fine for you. Ticker.
