Abnormal EKG

Abnormal EKG

First and only EKG report stated a vent rate of 50bpm, PR interval 190ms, QRS duration 102ms, QT/QTC 434/395ms, P-R-T axixs 59 63 23 showing sinus bradycardia, possible right ventricular hypertrophy,   moderate voltage criteria for LVH that maybe a normal variant. At age 36 at 155lbs, what does all this mean? Stroke, heartattack, or both? I need the whole report explained.

why not talk to the doctor who performed the ekg or ordered it? Its much more reliable then someone who might misinform you and scare the bejesus out of you

Your ventricular rate 50 is low but it should not be any problem (heart rate below 60 at rest is normal is bradycardia).
PR interval -- Between 120-200 ms. (Normal)
QRS complex: less than 120ms (Normal).

Low voltage can be the result of obesity, some obstruction, ...but it is classified as a normal variant and probably insignificant.....  Detection of right ventricular enlargement in adults by ECG criteria is often exceedingly difficult.  This is because the left ventricle is normally so much larger and thicker than the right ventricle in adults that it masks (obstructs) even moderate increases in right ventricular chamber size.  As a result, many patients with RVH won't be identified if assessment for chamber enlargement is limited to obtaining an ECG...apparently that is the position of your doctor.

An ECG has a low sensitivity rating to diagnosing chamber dimensions...an echocardiogram would be required to substantiate.  The posted parmenters of your test does not indicate any serious condition if bradycardia and low voltage output are considered insignificant.

The doctor explained report to be symptoms that go along with hypertension.  The possible right ventricular hypertrophy was due to a muscle surrounding heart appearing thicker than the average. Anemia was also added to the list. BP medication has been stopped for a trial period, stress test scheduled for this week, all in an effort to get me into Ranger School that will not accept a waiver for BP medication. The question was initially posted to see if I'd learn anything new about my condition since I'm dealing with military doctors. I've been on the meds for almost 8 yrs of which 3 yrs of that serving as a Drill Sgt. I can also deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan using Felodipine and was curious as to what harm would 61 days of Ranger School do.

This forum or any other forum with members are individuals with a medical history and provides a perspective from experience.  I recommend to anyone that has a medical problem to learn as much about their condition as possible.  A better understanding enables a patient or relative to ask the professional involved with the treatment the right questions.

Primary hypertension almost always does not have any symptoms.  Secondary to hypertension can be an enlarged left ventricle, and if the hypertension is effectively treated the LV should return to normal size.  Hypertension is usually due to constricted vessels, vessel blockage (stress test will determine any lesions), and it can be idiopathic (cause unknown).

Questions to ask doc:. What type of anemia is it, what is the cause of the anemia, how serious is this type of anemia, has any permanent damage been done, what treatment will you be recommending, will you be prescribing any medications, what are the side effects, will treatment need to be continued for life?

Felodpine treats high blood pressure, your doctor should be able to inform you regarding any limitations using the medication, and there hasn't been any in the past!  Because you have a history of using the medication, there shouldn't be unexpected side effects.

Thanks for serving your country, and good luck.
