Abnormal EKG

Abnormal EKG

I recently had an EKG done as a part of a Health Fair and the results came back abnormal.  I plan on scheduling an apointment with my doctor, but I was wondering what this reading could possibly mean.  It says sinus bradycardia (ventricular rate 59 bpm) with 2nd degree SA block.  I occasionaly (about once a month) have an episode where my heart feels like it beats really fast for about 5 seconds and then returns to normal.  Also, I was once told by a nurse that my pulse seemed "irregular."  Could these things all be related?  Thanks you.

Dear Beth,

Sinus bradycardia is a slow heart rate ( < 60 beats per minute by definition.  The 2nd degree SA block is a block in the conduction from the sinus node to the atrioventricular node and may cause irregular heart beats.  these findings and your symptoms could be related.  I would recommend a Holter monitor to determine the frequency of these irregualr beats as well as their causes.
