Abnormal EKG

Abnormal EKG

I had an EKG done yesteday and the doctor said everyting looked great but I noticed on the top of the form it said abnormal (Right Ventricle Hypertrophy).  He reassured me everything was fine and sent me on my way.

I exercise 5 days a week for 30-45 minutes and my 2 minute recovery heart rate is over 50 beats per minute.  I do have palpitations while at rest but during exercise everything seems to work fine.

Should I get a second opinion?

jgaer,

Alot of factors can throw off the ecg machine's interpretation of the ECG making it somewhat unreliable.

The criteria for RVH are based on a large number of factors and that can be interfered with by age, conditioning level, and body habitus.

Usually, an experienced clinician should be able to interpret the ecg in the clinical context of a patient.

A second opinion really depends on your comfort level with your physician and his/her ability to alleviate your concerns. Ask them directly about the notation on the ECG and see what their explanation is.

good luck
