Abnormality on stress thallium

I had a stress thallium about two weeks ago after being hospitalized for chest pain. During the hospitalization the serial cardiac enzymes as well as EKG,s were normal. Monitoring displayed unifocal PVC's. The 2d echo was neg. The excercise portion of the stress test was adenosine induced and was neg. The cardiologist noted a small thumbnail size abnormality at the apex of the heart during the thallium testing. He did not explain further. The cardiologist seemed to be unconcerned about this . Should i be concerned, get a second opinion? what are the implications of a small isolated abnormality at the apex of the heart.

With regard to the small abnormality, it is difficult to say without seeing the specific test. Now, if the exercise portion of the test was normal, and everything else looked normal, it is likely that the small abnormality is of little concern. Remember that that stress tests are only screening tests for coronary artery disease. If, based on your entire clinical picture, and the results of the test, you have a low probabilty of having significant coronary artery disease, it may be very reasonable to to be concerned about a very small defect seen on stress testing. I would discuss with your cardiologist, and of course if you have any additional or worsening symptoms, I would bring them to medical attention.
