Ace inhibitors

I have idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and recently read where ace inhibitors are beneficial in large doses and not as helpful in lower dosages for IDC and CHF.  What would be considered a large enough dose of prinivil?  Janice

Dear Janice, thank you for your question.  The dose range of prinivil is 5 - 40 mg/day.  We generally start a patient on the lowest dose and titrate the dose up until the maximum dose is reached as long as the BP is not lowered too much and the patient is able to tolerate the higher dose.  I agree that the highest tolerated dose of an ACE inhibitor should be used whenever possible.
I hope you find this information useful.  Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.  Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to write back with additional questions.  Good luck.
