I too have had skipping heartbeats since I was a child. At 25 I had a resting pulse of 180 and was told to stop caffeine altogether. I did stop caffeine and never had the racing pulse again, but I continued to have skipping heartbeats. I was told they were something called "premature ventricular contractions", or PVCs. These are not dangerous, but it seems to me that you would feel 100% better if you went to a doctor and had them test you to make absolutely sure that that is what you are experiencing. The fact that you can run and not get tired is good news, but please, go to a doctor and find out for sure?

I agree with "nevvy".  You have not had any 24-hour holter ECG's or sonars or anything and an even though PVC's are not dangerous, an irregular heartbeat is not normal and you should bring this under the attention of your GP and ask for a reverral to a Cardiologist.

You only have one heart, please look after it :)

hi aaron, i would give pepsi n cola a miss too or anything with the dreadful ingredient aspartame in it.

see your doctor they will run further tests, they aren't painful or anything but it will at least put your mind at rest,
ps i have learnt that no one is too young to have a heart condition, in fact it is very commonin late teens to early adulthood, but it can be treated.

take care kym

Hi Aaron,
I first had these heartbeats when I was in my 30s and eventually they subsided and I only got them every now and then when I got stressed. However three years ago when my husband died suddenly they came back with a vengeance and how I have struggled. I am on propranolol (beta blockers) which really helped and a few weeks ago I thought I was ready to come off them Guess what - it's all started up again. Alcohol, some foods, chocolate, coffee and being tired all make them worse. So does lying down so when I get to bed it's hard to get to sleep but once I am asleep it's fine and they are not there in the morning until I've been awake for a while. My BP is now giving some cause for concern and appears to be a bit unstable so I am being monitored and will ask for a referral to get it sorted out. I did have a ecg and was told it's an ectopic heartbeat but it's still scary and kinda dominates your life! Didnt realise there are so many of us out there!  I went to Australia for five weeks with friends last year and had no problems at all whilst I was away!
Anyway Aaron - good luck but do ask to be referred to a consultant to get it checked - it can be very reassuring or if there is a problem it can be sorted.
Best wishes,
Sue2
