After MVP surgery re:illnesses

I had MVP repair in June of 1999 with Dr. Cosgrove at the Clinic and I'm absolutely wonderful now - I feel so much better than I have in years!  The one thing I do not know, and haven't been able to find in my research is this:  Now that I have been repaired & have trivial leakage - when would I need to be concerned if I get sick; say with an upper respiratory infection, the flu, a fever, a virus, etc.  Do I need to call a doctor asap or tough it out as though I've never had MVP?  I guess I'm asking if I treat it as I normally would have before I was diagnosed or would an illness be something I should treat immediately?  If you could give me some guidelines, I would appreciate it so much.  Thanks again for this wonderful service.

Dear Denise,

Just treat this as you would normally.
