Alcohol -- cardiomyopathy and bicuspid valve

by arokisbobcat, Apr 22, 2009 10:46AM
How much alcohol consumption is necessary to cause alcohol cardiomyopathy?  I am also wondering how the effects of alcohol consumption effects a person with BAV.

Prior to being diagnosed with BAV last year, I used to be a binge drinker on weekends.  I have since cut back drastically and drink maybe twice a month.  In the past, I would never touch alcohol during the week but weekends I would drink quite a bit.  I am curious what effect this may have had on my valve.  I wasn't diagnosed with any cardiomyopathy but I am interested to know what effects heavy weekend drinking might have on the heart as oppossed to the person who drinks daily.

What recommendations/guidelines do you advice for alcohol consumption do you administer for people with BAV?  Also, are people with BAV at more risk of developing cardiomyopathy?
