Am I doing the right thing?

by Kappalua, Nov 02, 2008 01:32PM
Hi:
I have had three episodes of atrial fibrillation. Once in April, another one in August and one in October. It always comes in the afternoons and doctors can't find anything wrong with my heart. I have had way too much stress in my life, but have cut that out. Additionally, I quit alcohol and caffeine as well. Before my first atrial fibrillation episode, which landed me in the ER (the other ones didn't), I suffered from almost constant, irregular heart beats. It was definitely very uncomfortable.
Since my last episode or AF, I am back on the Metropol beta blocker (25 mg twice per day). however, suddenly I have for 5 days had multiple episodes of irregular herat beats again. Sometimes it is like a "flutter" other times, clearly irregular and feels like pounding. I hate this and am wondering what is going on? When it is really bad, I take an extra beta blocker. I have never gone over 100 mg per day. Am I doing the right thing? Also, will I develop tolerance to the pills and can anyone tell me why I may be having this, what seems like a new issue. I am a little scared. Also, what is the current thinking on perhaps adding minerals, such as magnesium, and Q 10 on the affects of atril fibbrilation. Sometimes I feel like my chemical balance is off.
Thanks.
