Am I losing my mind? Palpitations?

Hi there...

I dont know where to begin. So I will start at the beginning. The end of August this year, I was sitting in my chair at my desk, and this sudden extreme pain hit me in the back of my head. I ended up going to the walk-in clinic that night only to be told that I had a pulled muscle. The doc sent me home with Skelaxin, which ended me up in the hospital for 3 days. My symptons include pressure in the back of my head, some tingling in my nose, lips, and forehead...also I have numbness in my left arm, pain in my neck/shoulders/upper back area...pain in the middle of my chest with dull throbbing heartbeats...I also experienced severe nausea with vomiting and diarrhea...some lightheadness and vertigo come and go...I also had severe pressure in my right ear, which now, after so many weeks is gone, but my hearing isnt as well in that ear...I also have gritting noises in my neck area.

Now, I was tested in the hospital...they did EKG's several times, I wore a halter heart monitor for 3 days, and they did a test where they put this radioactive stuff in my veins and took pictures of my heart, dont know what they call it. They also took blood from the veins and arteries ...and I was told my enzymes were fine, no sign of clots. So they sent me home and told me to go to my family doctor. Had MRI neck/c-spine done, came back ok, but some degeneration of c-4 to c-7. ROM, strengthning, & stretching exercises told to do. I now suffer from depression along with it all. Does anyone have any advice? Or is anyone else suffering the same thing?

I too suffer from anxiety and panic attacks from my PVC's and having a defibrillator. I wake up every morning with a back ache spread across the top and from reading your post it could be from stress. I thought I bought a wrong mattress so that is when Iwent to the chiropractor. Anyways this week I have not been eating well and sleeping o.k. this week since my husband is out of town which is another source of anxiety but I digress I wonder why my arms and legs feel as if I've worked outthis week! I understand how anxiety causes physical symptoms but I thought depression was all mental. A massage is a great way to relax and I go to release the stress but it gets hard when they get to my back and you can feel the knots as they try to work them out. My gosh- around my shoulders and upper back is nothing but knots! I wish us the best with our anxieties and palpitation problems, glad for this forum!

i suffer from depression and anxiety form heart palps and i wanted to say that when i am really stressed and dont sleep enough my body hurts so bad.

i cant explain it but there are days that i feel like i have been hit by a train. i think it has to do w/ not eating right when your depressed. not sleeping enough can have such a vast array of effects on our bodies. my upper back will kill me so bad. its where i carry my tension. the rest of my body will have a dull aching pain. my neck hurts too when i move it any way its so tight.

my dr told me that if i am feeling really depressed that i need to go to get a massage. it will help loosen everything up and allow me to sleep better.

Just out of curiosity how did the Dr. explain the pain in association with depression? I can understand beng stressed and tensing your muscles involuntarily but just wondered what mental depression had to do with your pain. My posture has been bad for years and seeing the chiropractor helped me straighten my posture even though since I've moved and have not found another I notice I slouch. Over time I forgot what the Dr. said slouching could do but it is like scar tissue that forms over time and it happens with your spine. I really need to get back to a chiro. Well good luck with your cardio appointment.

Well, I went to the doctor today, and he put me on meds for depression and pain. He seems to think part of my pain stems from depression. So we try out the new meds for a month and see what happens.

As far as the heart palpitations, he is sending me to a cardiologist next Wednesday to make sure everything is ok. He did an EKG today and said it was fine. But just wanted to dig deeper to make sure there were no hidden heart problems.

I know what you mean about the new drugs. I'm afraid to take anything anymore because of them. I have an appt. today, a checkup, and I am going to express my concerns once more. I think I am just wearing myself out from lack of sleep and not being able to move around normally.

My posture hasnt been the best the past 4 or 5 months, I have noticed I have begun to stoop over. I guess I should try and sit better.

Thanks for replying :-)

Hello. It sounds like a reaction to the meds, allergies and stress. I do sleep wrong and have the body sensations you have and have seen a chiropractor for my back issues and the nausea and vomiting could be a reaction of the meds. I have never heard of that medicine the Dr. put you on but these days I  investigate every med Drs give me. I had a bad reaction years ago before all these drugs issues came about and where I had a life threatening arrythmia from the 2 drugs I was given. Ever since then I do not take any new drug I only take things that  have been around for years! I am just a little paranoid about meds and don't mean to pass it to you but these days with synthetic meds, we need to watch ourselves. You said you were sitting at your desk, are you sitting properly? I was just thinking aobut the back, neck and shoulder aches. I am glad all the cardiac test turned out fine but sometimes medicines can give people palpitations, even those with no cardiac problems. I have a friend who takes Zyrtec and it makes her heart race and she has a normal healthy heart. Be well.
