Hey, Im a 16 year old male, and im wondering if anyone could help me on this, about 5 months ago I started having chest pain, one night when I got up from laying down it pained for a little while afterwards, Then it turned into sharp chest pain when breathing in deeply and so on,Then the other night it hurt when I layed down and breathed out, but when i streched my arm i always get a pain when I streched a exact certain way, it took the what seemed like a kink over and under my heart out. But doing the strech hurt me, but my problem is I had alot of pain which seemed heart pain in orgin there just two others that I really dont think are,Iv Had lightheadness but it sudsided now and fagitue which is gone,I get what seem like heart papatations I was searching the net on these symptoms but I over came seeing so called healthy kids dying suddenly during sports most cause because of some heart conditon called HCM? called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.get alot of back soreness, neck stiffness and chest pain over my heart and sometimes in the middle,I had 2 ekg`s, chest x-ray, echocardiogram and a stress test,But im worried my doctor might of not thought of something and missed something.I took a hard knee into my middle left side of my back about 2/3 weeks before the pain started, could this have caused a injury which prelong for 5 months and made me think its a heart conditon which made me develope a anxiety over it,I have to admit I did take a few panic attacks or at least Im pretty sure they were I felt like I was dying could this be anxiety?and even have symptoms when I feel fine?

Hi doug,

I am sorry to hear about your concerns.  There is a disease called HCM that is known to cause death in young atheletes.   You had the usual screening tests (ekg and echo) and I am assuming they were read as normal.  The other question I would ask you in clinic is do you have a family history of sudden death in young people (brother, sisters, uncles).  HCM is genetic in most cases and we can usually trace back some family history.

The other components of your chest pains sound a bit like pericarditis, but this should resolve on its own.  If your pains persists, my best advice is to continue going to your doctor to make sure they are aware of your concerns.  If you haven't already seen one, they may send you to see a cardiologist.   Based on what you are writing, if it is cardiac, it could be pericarditis, if it isn't that, I think it is probably not coming from your "heart," maybe just your chest or chest wall.

Anxiety attacks can certainly make people feel like they are  dying.  IT may be worth discussing this with your doctor as well.

I hope this helps.

Hi at your age and with all the tests you have had.. assuming they were negative the odds of it being a cardiac issue are likely extremely remote . you sound active so it's likely a mucsle pull or something of the like. IF your parents and yourself trust and like your doc and you were given a clean bill of health don't start talking yourself into illnesses you do not have!! Sometimes all the internet info access is not such a good thing!! You nave a long life ahead so trust your docs and enjoy every second of it. Good luck Gaspipe

Everything was negative, the cardiologist told me I have a normal heart, Im just worry I still get sympotms of heart problems like chest pain, sometimes I think im short of breathe but I dont think I actually am, Could I have a minor injury or something nothing serious anyways, and the pain I get is not serious but I think to myself it is and I worried to get symptoms that arent really there, I mean i had at least I thought a good cardio  asscesment, So could I have a minor injury or nothing wrong with my heart which i care most and I built up anxiety from the worry, should I check for something else all I checked was heart condtions, Or is this enough evidence the pain well go away on its own, Its been 5/6 months, Should I continue exercising to my fullest and let it go away on its own?

I seen a cadiologist he was the one who gave me a echo and the stress test, My dads a X-ray tech so he took the xray for me and My doctor gave me the 2 ekg`s and as far as im aware theres no heart disease or sudden death ever in my family, There was a minor heart attack, but he survived.

You might want to look up costochondritis.  You can get it from an injury.  It can cause you pains that make you wonder if you are having a heart attack.  A lot of what you wrote sound like it may be costo.  Just a thought.
