Angiogenesis

  Dear Sir
I have just seen an article on TV referring to coronary angiogenesis and
would like to find out more information about it.
I have two areas of interest in this subject, firstly I am a nurse and
work with heart patients and secondly it may be of benefit to my father
who, at the age of 62 and after having been declined a second CABG
procedure on the grounds of poor prognosis of survival from surgery,
could be an ideal candidate for such therapy
  Can you provide such imformation
Dear John
Angiogenesis is an experimental therapy that we are researching here at the Cleveland Clinic. Your father does sound like he might be eligible. You could call the number listed below and make an appointment with Dr. Ellis at the Clinic to have your father evaluated.
Basically, the procedure involves a cardiac catheterization and infusion down the coronary arteries of a growth factor to help the heart form new blood vessels around blockages.
I hope you find this information useful.  Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.  Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to write back with additional questions.
If you would like to make an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center, please call 1-800-CCF-CARE or inquire online by using the Heart Center website at www.ccf.org/heartcenter.   The Heart Center website contains a directory of the cardiology staff that can be used to select the physician best suited to address your cardiac problem.
