Another victim

Wow. I couldn't believe my experience would be so easy to identify with others. I have experienced a pounding heartbeat for about a week or so now, on and off, but last night, I was awoken for the first time with a racing heart beat. I wouldn't have thought it could beat that fast without serious repurcussions. I live in a rural area with my young son, and panic set in as to what I should do. Do I risk driving to the ER, call an ambulance and risk being ok when it arrives. I took the first step of attempting to wake my son up, for comfort as much as anything I think, not really knowing what I was going to do next. When that proved to be too difficult, I decided to take some deep breaths and calm down to see if anything changed. After a few minutes of debilitating terror, I noticed it was slowing down. After about half an hour of reassuring myself, I was able to go back to sleep with no further incident. I have been tossing up wether to go and see my GP today, but after reading your experiences, I feel a bit more comfortable about seeing how it goes. Although knowing what I do now may help slightly if it happens again, it's an extremely frightening thought. I have recently had blood tests and cholesterol checked to measure the health of my heart which gives me some comfort. Here's hoping for uninerrupted sleep for us all!!

I am not a doctor.

You could also report this toyour GP and get a heart monitor that can record the fast heart beat and tell what kind it is and better to decide waht to do about it.
