Antenolol user--need advise

I have high blood pressure.  For quite a few years I have been taking Antenolol (100mg) and HCTZ (25)mg.  For quite a while now my pressure has been very good.  My doctor told me this summer to cut the Antenolol in half (50mg) because my feet were swelling so much.  Last week she said that I am doing so well, I can stop taking the Antenolol and just take the fluid pill.  She told me to take Antenolol every other day for several days and then just stop.  I have not had a pill since Tuesday of this week.  My heat rate has increased ,and I feel anxious.

I also have Mitral Valve Prolapse.   What do you advise?  i am tempted to take the Antenolol.

Abrupt cessation of beta-blockers (such as atenolol) can sometimes result in the symptoms you describe, however it sounds as if a tapering regimen was recommended.  If these symptoms are persistant, you should discuss further treatment options with your doctor and perhaps use a long taper duration.

You're not supposed to stop beta blockers like atenolol cold turkey, you're supposed to gradually wean yourself from them over a period of two or more weeks, otherwise, you get the rapid heart rate you have experienced. Your doctor should know this, tell him what you're experiencing and ask him about a schedule for reducing your dosage over time.
