Any experiences w/ Mitral Stenosis or repair of MS?

Any experiences w/ Mitral Stenosis or repair of MS?

I was wondering if anyone who had undergone a mitral valve balloon valvuloplasty would care to share their pre-surgery and post-surgery mitral valve opening measurements, or any other experiences

I'm posting this for my fiance, not myself. He is a 20 yr old male who developed rheumatic fever as a child which damaged/calcified his mitral valve. Going into surgery he had mild symptoms but his mitral valve was severely stenotic with an opening of just 0.9cm squared. After the balloon valvuloplasty (and a freak thromboembolism that developed in his femoral artery) his valve now opens somewhere between 1.7cm to 2.1 cm squared. Every doctor that measures it gives us a different area and also a different normal valve area, it's so frustrating.

One stated that the normal mitral valve area is 3cm squared, the other said 2.5cm, and everything I read on the internet says normal is 4-6cm squared. Either way, even after surgery, his valve is opening half to less than half of what it should and I'm really concerned that the treatment was not aggressive enough.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Mitral balloon valvuloplasty cannot cure MS, it is just relieve stenosis.  The valve is damaged; it won’t be opened as it should be before.
Consider your boyfriend’s valve is opening 1.7-2.1cm; it should be consider a successful result.
Does your boyfriend have any regurgitation after the valvuloplasty?
Where he had the balloon valvuloplasty?

Pls check ACC/AHA guidelines, it helps you to understand more:
