Any longstanding implications 0f Bradycardia?

by fluffypurrcat, Jun 13, 2008 11:03PM
Hi, I am a 55 year old female who usually has low blood pressure except when in pain, or for unknown reasons it shoots up.( 150-166/ 100-90 ) When I had my heart symptoms, it stayed high for the entire month off an on. On resting it is noted on all but one EKG and on blood pressure monitors, that I have Bradycardia. It runs in the range of 44 to 49 BPM most of the time. I have had it in this range for quite some time, and I am not an athlete, though doctors as far back as 1999 remarked on my low heart beat, and asked if I was an athlete, of which I am not.

I had a unknown heart incident in April of this year, of which I am trying to sort out, Catherization, Stress Test, cardioloigst visits, and waiting for results of Echo test this comming week. My question is this, I don't think I have ever read anything regarding a slow heart beat. Is there any longstanding implications for a slow heartbeat, anything to worry about. ? The only thing I know is that when I have had surgery, the nurses allways worry about my heart when it drops down into the 30's range. Thank you.                                                  Fluffypurrcat

Hi I have had bradycardia for years and my BPM was always about 50, six months ago I started getting flutter in the heart and have been diagnosed with Arrhythmia. Since having this my BPM is now 39-43 and only goes up to about 55 when working.
I did asked the doctor if this would weaken my heart in the long term and he says no.
hope this helps

Did you take into consideration the bradycardia condition of any post heart attack patients. When a heart rate not too low is considered not risky, isn't it a cause of concern for a post heart attack victim?
