Anyone ever taken Metoprolol, please advise....

Hi!

My cardiologist has just prescribed Metoprolol, very low dose, to try to help me with my PVC's and various other arrythmias.  I was just wondering if anyone else has taken it for this, and has it helped?  I allready have a low resting heart rate (56) and very low blood pressure (89/55 at times).  I am not too keen on my blood pressure or pulse going too much lower.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Anyone having any experience with this drug, good or bad, I'd love to hear it.  Thanks so much.

Michelle

Here is my experience with it.  I was given a tiny dose (25 mg.).  My doctor said for woman my size (5'8, 155 lbs), it is like peeing in the ocean.  But, I tried it nonetheless.  For the two months that I was on it, I had the most horrible dreams of my life, I mean awful (my kids dying and drowning, me getting chased by murderers, etc... just horrible).  I did not see any noticeable effect from the medication at all.  Just tired and horrible dreams.  I have really low blood pressure and heart rate as well and I don't know if it dropped it or not.  Bottom line is, I was getting no appreciable affect from it and combined with the horrible dreams, I went off of it.  My palps are no better, no worse.

I was on it (given at the ER) , and the Cardiologist took me off immediately when my pulse fell to 34 bpm, and I could not function because of extreme fatigue.  My normal pulse for the last 40 yrs is between 48-54 bpm.

Yeah, my cardiologist opted not to put me on it for that reason - my bp and pulse really didn't need to go any lower.  He said the antiarrhythmic effect was for comfort anyhow, so...

yes and was on the 25 xl also. I didn't seem to last the entire day and by my next dose my heart was begging for another dose. It didn't really affect my blood pressure just the heart rate a little. Everyone is different and it might take a couple of experiements with different beta blockers if you find that this one isn't the one for you. Good luck.

Yes I've taken it for a year now. I started on 25 mg twice a day but I increased to 3 times a day cause my heart was going so fast still. Now it's pretty much leveled out my heart rate but I still have a fast one. My PVC's still occure but who knows when those will go away
