Anyone have pvc's/pac's AND beta blockers not taking them away?

by micheller, Nov 02, 2006 12:00AM
I was hoping that the Inderal I am taking for my SVT would take away the pac's and pvc's, but seems to not, and I've been having episodes of them for the last couple days, some really hard skips.  I thought the beta blockers took them away, or am I wrong?  Michelle

I never experienced PVCs until I STARTED taking Inderal. Doctor prescribed Inderal for panic and anxiety after a different doctor had gotten me addicted to Xanax, which is a different story. I was on 60 mg Inderal a day, and then started getting PVCs at night. I tried to get off the Inderal, but that made the PVCs much worse. Finally I did a very slow taper using time release Inderal, and that was tolerable. On no medication at all I'm now left with residual PVCs that can come on many in one day, then several days with few to none. I have read that in some people beta blockers can increase the incidence of PVCs, which is certainly the case with me. Just the experience of one person, but hope that helps some.

i had svt when i was 17 and an ablation when i was 19 for it. i am now 24 and have tachycardia and what feels like pac's. i have normal beats then some pounding ones the kind you feel in your throat.
it sucks. i am back on atenolol. which is what i took when i was diagnosed w/ svt.
i still feel them. they come and go bad weeks good months bad months......... its really random.
i am sorry. just make sure to take note if you notice it happening at certain times it could be something triggering it.

Actually, beta blockers don't really reduce the palpitations, just the sensation of them.  BBs work on the adrenaline response, which can reduce the frequency.  Interestingly enough, BBs can also induce *more* ectopics.

I found Atenolol much, much more beneficial in reducing PVC frequency and it's startling effects.

Inderal did not work to control my PVCs.  I take 100mg/day of Atenolol.

I take 20mg propranolol a day and now in the past week for unknown reasons my PVCs have magnified and increased by a ton.  I've been to the ER twice this week for them because i thought I was dying and I also get dizzy and weird feeling after them (could be part of anxiety from them).  I get palpitations when I lay down, sit up and increased when i do any physical acitivity.  I dont understand.  Cardio appt on the 6th, I cant wait.
