Aortic Root

An otherwise health male age 71 has an aortic root of 4.3  the only other time that it was checked was in 2000 and at that time it was 3.3.  I am being told that this is not a standard risk for life insurance.

Generally, when the root is greater than 4.0 cm it is classified as an aneursym, and if and  when the size increases to 5.0 cm there begins to be a concern of a rupture and surgery may be recommended.  Also, consideration is given to any fast growing root >0.5 cm/year.

It probably isn't an insurance risk until it reaches 5.0 cm, but I have no specific knowledge on the issue...may also depend on the insurance carrier.

Thanks for your question, and if you have any further questions or comments you welcome to respond.  Take care and I wish you well going forward.
