Aortic valve replacement

Aortic valve replacement

In March of 1990 I underwent successful aortic valve replacement by homograph procedure.  The valve is beginning to fail and I am told that a replacement will be required within 1 to 1 1/2 years.  I am 59 and very active.  I work 10 to 12 hour days and operate a cattle ranch.  As such, taking an anticoagulant is not an option.  I recently saw on TV a tissue replacement procedure involving the aortic valve done in New York that was neither a homograph or a Ross procedure.  The individual receiving the procedure was 60 years old and very active.  He reported that, "He never felt better and was working 10 hour days."  Do you have any information on this procedure?  What does it involve?  Who does it?  Where is it done? What is the projected time the replacement valve will last?
  Thank you,
  Rick

Dear Rick
Tissue valves are commonly used and have been used for years. They do not require the use of blood thinner medications. Their lifespan is about 10-15 years at best, so if you live long enough you would require repeat surgery.
I hope this has been useful. Feel free to write back with further questions. Good luck.
