Aortic valve

I have posted recently regarding heart disease.  I HAD Id DCM, but a recent visit to my cardiologist confirmed that that is no longer the case.  I did take Phen-fen, experienced shortness of breath, and quit it immediately.  All of my valves have some degree of regurgitation, however, a recent echo shows my aortic valve has progressed from mild to moderate. My aortic valve and mitral valve show a mild degree of thickness. I was dx in my early 20's with a grade II blowing systolic murmur.  I asked my cardiologist if I might need a valve replacement someday.  He said absolutly not.  Yet, my regurgitation has become worse. My age is 48.  How can he tell that I will not need a replacement in the future?  Am I missing something?  Thank you so much for your input.

Well, no one has a crystal ball that can tell the future.  I'm not sure why your doctor said what he did.  Perhaps he thought you meant in the near future?  The progression of your regurgitation is disturbing and this will need to continue to be followed.  IF it does progress to severe regurgitation you may indeed need valve surgery.
