Arrhythmia and Chest Pain

Two years ago I had my second AVR. Recently I have had palpitations and chest pain. I was wondering if anyone has had chest pain caused by Arrhythmia. Thanks!

paulwk,

Sorry to hear about your recent troubles. Chest pain that comes from the heart typically occurs in 1 of two different ways. First, the blood vessel can get occluded which results in the sudden lack of blood flow to the heart muscle. This is the typical way that a heart attack occurs.

The other way cardiac chest pain occurs is when you have a blockage that limits but does not completely block blood flow. When the heart needs more oxygen (i.e. is beating fast due to an arrhythmia), this blockage prevents the heart from getting all the blood that it requires.

So, to answer your question -- yes, an arrhythmia can cause you to have chest pain.
