Arrythmias and MVP

by Elizabeth, Nov 14, 1999 12:00AM
I know the current feeling is that MVP does not increase a persons risk of death.  However, I have heard that people w/ MVP are more prone to life threatening arrythmias.
1.  Is this correct?
2.  which types are the most dangerous?
3.  Is MVP, coupled with an arrythmia, more dangerous than an arrythmia w/ no MVP?
4.  Would a life threatening arrythmia be caught on an ECG even if you are not having symptoms at that time?

THANK YOU!!!!!

Dear Elizabeth,

MVP is not associated with life-threatening arrhythmias if the heart remains structurally normal.  I fthe MVP is so severe that the heart function decreases, then this is the case where arrhythmias may occur.
